Reports out of Los Angeles state that the LA Kings and Ilya Kovalchuk have once again failed to come to terms on a contract for the unrestricted free agent. Kovalchuk’s representative Jay Grossman was believed to have submitted a counter-offer to the Kings yesterday as a means to getting the wheels greased between the two parties once more, but GM Dean Lombardi has again rejected a set of terms believed to be constricting to the teams young core.

“Dean is trying here, but we know what we need in cap space going forward to keep our nucleus together. We can’t let one guy throw us into panic in a year or two. It is not about cash. It is about cap.”
